Refresh Your Mattress

When freshening up our dream spaces, we typically vacuum, wash all of our bedding, and wipe down dusty surfaces. But how often does the most important part of our bedroom - our bed - get the TLC it deserves? It only takes a couple of ingredients to freshen and deodorize your mattress, and you can even customize it with your favorite scent of essential oil.

Watch our freshen session above to see how it's done, and see more detailed instructions below. Enjoy a fresher night's sleep!

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. baking soda
  • Your choice of essential oil (we picked lemon)
  • Vacuum

Step 1

Remove all of your bedding. While you're at it, this might be a great time to throw sheets and pillowcases in the wash to give your entire bed a refresh.

Step 2

Mix your essential oil into the baking soda. We recommend at least 10 drops per 16 oz. of baking soda, but feel free to add more for an even stronger scent. We chose lemon-scented essential oil, and the clean, citrusy smell lingered in our showroom for days.

Step 3

Sprinkle the baking soda mixture evenly across your mattress, and then rub it in for a deep and direct clean. Allow the mixture to sit for at least one hour to completely remove odors and to allow the delicious fragrance to sink in.

Step 4

Vacuum it up! Using your vacuum's upholstery attachment if it has one, run over the surface of your mattress to remove all excess baking soda. This will also remove any lingering dirt or dust mites, and that will help anyone sleep more soundly. Grab your freshly washed sheets from the dryer, make your bed, and enjoy a fresh, fragrant sleep!
